William Auzy Woolsey Sr. (Bill), 82, of Lubbock passed away at home on the evening of Thursday, June 25th. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at 1:00 pm at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Bill was born in Oak Grove, Louisiana on April 2,1938 to Raymond H. Woolsey and Berta Mae (Posey) Woolsey. He was the fourth of nine children and the last surviving sibling. After graduating from Oauchita High School, he married his sweetheart Amanda Jo Woolsey on October 3,1958, and for the next 62 years she stood like a rock beside him, through all of life’s ups and downs. They had two sons - William Junior (Billy) and Douglas.
In his early married life, Bill served in the Louisiana Army National Guard, was a sworn auxiliary police officer in Monroe, LA and served on the Monroe Fire Department. Later he began what would become his lifelong career in the wholesale grocery industry. A succession of jobs with different companies took the family to homes in Missouri, South Carolina and Texas. In 2003, he retired from Fleming Foods and settled into life in Lubbock with Jo. They are members of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed the many friendships they gained over the last two decades in Lubbock. Their Sunday School class was particularly a joy in their lives. Bill’s interests were working in their beautiful yard alongside Jo, and competitive pistol shooting. He was an accomplished shooter in the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation and traveled around the country competing. He particularly enjoyed shooting as a team with his sons and grandsons.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Jo, sons Billy (Amy) of Sauk Rapids, MN and Doug (Marla) of Corsicana, TX and grandchildren Amanda (Caleb) Champion of Lubbock, Christopher Woolsey of Corsicana, Will Woolsey III of Lubbock and Amelia Woolsey of Lubbock. He had one great granddaughter, Blakelynn Mae Champion of Lubbock. It was a particular joy for him to get to know and spend time with Blakelynn.
Above all, Bill loved his family with fierce loyalty. They anxiously await the day they will be reunited with him in Heaven.
