Terri Sanders Obituary

Terri Lynn Sanders was pronounced deceased on Friday, May 26th in Lubbock, Texas. She is made new and lovingly wrapped in our Savior’s arms.

Born in Clovis, New Mexico on August 18th, 1961, she was the daughter of Benjamin Ross Hillock and Lana Luelda Lujan.

Terri graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelors of Science. She worked for the local and state government for most of her career. She most enjoyed her work in Community Development since she was able to help others find resources they needed to improve their lives. Her greatest joy in life was to help others through service, prayer and baking. In 1984, Terri married Rene Martinez. During their marriage, they had one child together. After 20 years of marriage, they divorced but remained friends and supported each other greatly.

She is survived by her daughter, Alicia Orr and husband William with children Esmond and Eleena; sister, Tonia Carpenter; brother, Ross Hillock and wife Lori; niece, Kendra Green and husband Brad with children, Brooklyn Henderson and husband Spencer with son Beckett, Madison, and Kynlee with son Asher; niece, Rachael Brandenburg and husband Josh with children Henry and Grover; niece Jamie Bridges and husband Mike with children Nathanael and Abigail; niece Cassie Hillock with children MaKaegin, Navy, Aizel, and Theory; many loving uncles and cousins; and stepmother Patty Hillock; and her Godchildren Fernado and Natali Martinez.

Awaiting her in Heaven include both maternal and paternal grandparents, her daddy Benjamin Hillock, mom Lana Lujan, sister Tina Hillock, brother-in-law Tim Carpenter, nephew Cody Hillock, uncle Laddie Tillman and granddaughter Paxton.

Terri loved Jesus and serving others. She was a fierce prayer warrior and generously dedicated her time to several causes throughout her life. She was most passionate serving Walk to Emmaus, Prison Ministry and volunteering as chaplain at University Medical Center. She served as a greeter for many years at the Dream Center. She was also an avid member of Celebrate Recovery. She said she always went because she was a chocoholic, but she also loved to be able to serve and support those at Celebrate Recovery.

Terri was creative and sentimental. She enjoyed making and eating sweets- anything with chocolate, but no-bake cookies were her favorite. She also enjoyed gardening and caring for plants. She also enjoyed making crafts and artwork; coloring was one of her favorite activities to do with her daughter.

She was an encourager to everyone around her. Her smile and laugh could change a room. Terri especially loved her family and deeply cherished her daughter Alicia.
