Roger Davis Obituary

On August 31, 2020 Roger Allan Davis passed away from his battle with colon cancer.

Born September 24th, 1961 in Hobbs, New Mexico. The son of Donell and Frances Davis. The family, along with baby brother Doug, moved to Lubbock in 1963.

Roger grew up in Lubbock and graduated from Dunbar High in 1980 from a vocational program where he received many honors for his skills. He took a liking to his best friend Jerry’s older sister, Vicky Lynn Slater, and they began dating.

The couple married in 1981 and welcomed son, Justin Derek in 1982, and soon after, baby sister, Shannon Denise in 1984. Roger worked hard for 30 plus years in the flooring industry, and the family moved to Amarillo, Albuquerque and Lake Belton. All the while, calling Lubbock home and settling back there for good in 1995.

An avid fisherman, the family enjoyed many weekends camping lakeside. Roger tied and crafted his own flies for fishing, and passed this passion onto his grandkids.

Roger enjoyed entertaining the family with music. A wonderful guitarist/singer with an impeccable knowledge and skill in music, shared his joy with all.

His son Justin married Jami Mull  in 2002, and daughter Shannon wed Mark Gavin Craig in 2003. Soon after the grandkids starting rolling in! Six in total, Truett Ryder, Cooper Alan, Herley Ann, Brady Reece, Maci Mae and Blythe Eleanor. They were the loves of his life, and he thoroughly enjoyed teaching and sharing traits with them.

Roger was a master of many things, or so he says, and we truly believe he was right! A never ending supply of facts, history, geography and how-tos. Be prepared to lose if you wanted to challenge him in a friendly game of Trivial Pursuit!

He loved golfing regularly with his father, brother, son, nephews, grandchildren and friends. He also had a love of cooking and grilling that he enjoyed with fellow chef and wife, Vicky, and in return their family enjoyed eating!

Roger was an incredibly tough man and fought through 15 months of chemotherapy. Never once did he give up, or complain. His family and friends cherish the time they had with Roger, and look forward to seeing him again one day.

Roger was a son, brother, cousin, husband, dad, uncle, grandpa, friend and loved by so many. We know he’s happy, healed and at peace now. Till we see you again, all our love.
