Mary Evans Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Patrick Evans was born May 19, 1939 in Plainview, Texas to Jim Leslie and Mary Salomie Norris Patrick. She passed away January 23, 2021 due to complications from Covid 19 pneumonia.

She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1957 and married the love of her life, Freddie Beverly Evans, on December 28, 1958. In 1965, Fred flew his helicopter until he found what he thought was the perfect spot for his family. They immediately began building their home and so many wonderful memories for family and friends. She worked as a bookkeeper for Slaton Flying Service and continued her education by taking several classes at South Plains College and Texas Tech. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, taught GA’s and was involved with the PTA at Roosevelt ISD.

At forty-five she received her nursing license and worked for Covenant Hospital as a pediatric nurse. She also worked for Hospice but her favorite job as a nurse was for Slaton Jr High. Mary adored her students and the staff.

In her spare time, she enjoyed movies, travel and was a voracious reader. Mary was known to have four to five books going at any given time. Mary was a Christian and loved any time she spent with her church family at Buffalo Springs Community Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Leslie Patrick and husband of forty years, Fred Evans.

Mary is survived by her sister Mary Elizabeth Brigham of Dallas, daughters Ginger (Marty) Whetzel of Ransom Canyon, Tanya (Steven) Waddell of Lubbock/Rockport and son Raymond Evans of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Grandchildren Marty, Paden, Tanyan & Tiffany Whetzel, Dirk and Dillon Robertson, Faith Cruz, Darcie Waddell and AmpE Evans. Great grandchildren Liam Robertson, Chloe, Dean, William and Ruth Whetzel along with several nieces and nephews.
