Martha Charis (Stapleton) Shively

Martha Charis Shively was born Martha Charis Stapleton to James and Eula Nell Stapleton on April 1, 1964. She was born in Oakland California and moved to Houston Texas at an early age.

She went to grade school at Montgomery Elementary, Jr. High at Dick Dowling Middle School, and graduated from the Highschool for Law and Justice in 1982. Later, she attended Sam Houston State University.

On February 20, 1997, She Married Robert Shively, and together they started their family. They adopted 3 children, 1 girl, and 2 boys. Priscilla Garza, and Michael and Jimmy Shively.

Charis was a published author who wrote many poems that were inspiring. Poems that could move you to tears, and joy. She did not say much out loud, but she did not need to, her pen was her voice, and she used it well. Later in life, she received a very nasty spider bite, and began having serious health issues, including seizures. These would often leave her unable to speak, still, she found ways to make her voice heard through her writings. 

Besides writing, she loved Star Trek. She had a great number of friends, and managed to keep in touch with cousins, aunts, and uncles even though she had not seen them in years. She was well loved by those who knew her, and she in turn loved fiercely and lastingly.

Charis was a Christian and loved her Savior deeply. On Monday, August 24, 2020, she went home. I have no doubt that she is resting in the arms of the one who gave all for her. She is survived by her husband Robert Shively, her three children Michael Shively Jimmy Shively and Priscilla Garza, her mother and father James Stapleton and Eula Stapleton, and her two brothers, Raymond Stapleton and Ambrose Stapleton all of whom will miss her forever.
