Mara Libra

Mara Libra, age 80, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, passed away July 10th, 2020, at her home in Lubbock TX. 

Mara Libra was born on April 5th, 1940, to Arvids and Milda (Emils) Kalnins on a farm in Allazi, Latvia, where she lived until the age of 4 years old. She and her family fled Latvia to escape the Russian invasion of communism in October of 1944. They escaped to northern Germany and in 1945, after WWII was over, Mara and her family lived in a displaced persons camp in northern Germany. In 1949, they immigrated to a farm near Hinckley, Minnesota. Mara completed her education and was a graduate of the Hinckley High School Class of 1959.

On October 21st, 1961 Mara was joined in marriage with Paul Libra at First Lutheran Church in Hinckley. This marriage was blessed with two children, Todd & Peggy.  They resided in Hopkins, St Louis Park and then Minnetonka, Minnesota and were married for over 50 years.  Mara worked at CSI in customer service for 38 years. 

Mara found joy in spending time with friends & family-especially with her 9-month-old Great Granddaughter Emersyn Rae, our pets, watching old shows like Lawrence Welk or Golden Girls, watching Family Feud or Wheel of Fortune, eating Dairy Queen Blizzards, enjoying the sunshine outside, playing Yahtzee and playing cards.  The freedom of living in America was something she never took for granted and instilled in her children and grandchildren.  When talking to others about Mara, they will often use the words kind, giving, happy, naïve & funny.  The last eight years after Paul passed away, Mara lived with her daughter Peggy, both in MN and most recently in Lubbock, TX.  

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 @ Lutheran Memorial Cemetery in Hinckley @2pm.

Daughter: Peggy Norton and Doug Arsenault of Lubbock TX

Grandchildren: Melissa Wachsmuth, Nick Wachsmuth & his wife, Joanna, Leigha Berry & her husband, Micah, & Nicholas Norton;

Great-Grandchildren: Adam Staff, Kylee Staff, Everett Wachsmuth, Delanee Wachsmuth, Eyan Holmes, Brayden Holmes, & Emersyn Berry; 

Sister: Ruta Janssen of Hinckley, MN;

Many other relatives and friends.                                                   

Mara was preceded in death by her Parents, Arvids and Milda Kalnins; Husband Paul Libra; Sisters, Sarma Kalnins (Twin Sister), Anda Kick, Anita Peterson.
