Leslie Hollars Obituary

Leslie Dee Hollars, age 61, passed away in his home surrounded by his three children on Wednesday, February 8th at 8:29PM in Lubbock, Texas. Leslie was born on November 24th, 1961, to his mother Sandra Maye Leslie and his father Robert Hugh Hollars.  His father who went by “Papa” also passed away on February 8th in 2016, 7 years prior, to the day.  Leslie was the second born of 5 siblings who are his older sister Diana Cannon and his younger siblings Rhonda Day, Arthur Hollars and Amber Akram.

Leslie Dee Hollars is survived by his son David Bryan Hollars and his wife Rachel Elyse Hollars and his granddaughters Aubrey Lynn Hollars and Hazel Elaine Hollars. He is also survived by his daughter Leslie McKinsey Walling and his grandson Aadyn Elliot Walling. Leslie is also survived by his daughter Sarah Lynn Reitz and her husband Kenneth Robert Reitz and three grandsons Sullivan Sage Hollars, Oliver Lee Malik, and Malachi Robert Reitz.

Les Hollars went to Plainview High School and later joined the United States Navy where he traveled the world and worked in the intelligence community.  He was honorably discharged on January 16th, 1986.  He was married to Theresa Lynn Hodgson who mothered his three children Leslie, David, and Sarah.  He opened a successful computer business in Plainview, Texas called The Computer Shop and worked on computers his entire career. My father, Les, was a very intelligent man and had a deep conviction for good morals and values.  He loved to write and play songs on his acoustic guitar for many years. He loved watching old western movies because of the values they instilled.  He could tell me the stage names and real names of just about every actor in those old westerns.  In his final years he built an off-the-grid “Homeshed” that was self-sufficient with a “Power Trailer” he put together with solar panels, solar charge controller, inverter, and batteries. Les had a dream to be able to live sufficiently off-the-grid and he was able to do just that the last 3 years of his life.  He picked up gardening and grew his own food, harvested his own power from the sun and lived peacefully in the flat plains of the Texas panhandle. Aside from fixing computers he was truly a master of all trades and knew his way around carpentry, plumbing, electrical engineering, and mechanics. He instilled love in the hearts of those around him and gave this world everything he had to offer. He loved to invent things and come up with ideas, and then try and build prototypes and prove those ideas would work.  One of the last ideas he had was to remove the hydrogen from water and store it as a fuel using electricity to do it.  I thought there was no way, but he built such a device and did it. He talked about converting his truck to run on hydrogen and if he had the means to do so I’m sure that he could have made that happen.  A lot of the ideas he had throughout life I saw become reality much later.  In his final days he wanted to make a podcast and talk about two things, Jesus and his country, the United States of America.
