Lane Hyde Obituary

Together with a multitude of family and friends, we celebrate the life of Lane Richard Hyde. Lane was born in Minneapolis, MN to Richard Allen (Dick) and Laureen Victoria (Laurie) Hyde on August 18, 1967. Lane passed from this earth on November 22, 2022, after a lengthy illness. During Lane’s life, he lived in Minneapolis, MN, La Crosse, WI, Aberdeen, SD and Lubbock, TX. He had very fond memories of La Crosse and spoke of it often, calling it the “best place in the world for a kid to grow up”. Lane graduated from Aberdeen Central High School, Class of 1986. Lane received his bachelor’s degree in Education with an emphasis on Special Ed from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. He went on to receive his Masters in Education from Texas Tech University. When asked what brought Lane to west Texas, he would tell you that it was Texas football. He wanted to be a coach and football was the game he loved most. Coaching sports was food to his soul. He retired from coaching because he wanted to spend more time being a dad to his daughters, whom he loved dearly. He had great knowledge of sports history, game theory, teams, players, and coaches, as well as current events in the world of sports. He loved watching sports of all kinds. He was an avid Texas Tech Red Raider fan and had the man cave to prove it! Lane also loved history. He was an educator for 25 years and taught history in the Roosevelt, Tahoka, Lubbock, and Frenship school districts in Texas. He could eloquently recall events and details from any time in history and then had a true insight for relating them to current events in our world. His recall of history and the way he communicated it kept your attention. Lane was a lifelong learner and reading was one of his greatest passions. If you were in a game of Trivial Pursuit, then you would certainly want to be on his team. Guaranteed win! A less known fact about Lane was that he loved animals of all kinds. He loved visiting zoos, and he loved watching TV shows about animals. Lane also enjoyed traveling. Trips to the mountains, historic sights, museums, sporting events, and zoos were among his favorite destinations. Lane’s faith in Christ was a driving force in his life. It brought joy and peace to both good and bad days. He knew from where his salvation came and his blessed assurance was that one day, he would meet Jesus face to face. His favorite verse was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son. Whosoever believes in Him will have everlasting life.” Lane loved his family! Lane and his wife, Paige, were married for 9 years. They blended their families together and cherished its goodness and joy. Lane children include Catherine Hyde and Peyton Hyde of Willmington, NC., Abigail Hyde of Lubbock, TX; Andrew Phillips (Kenzie) of Colorado Springs, CO; Dana Phillips (Katy) of Lubbock TX; Amanda Houchin (Daniel) of Lubbock, TX; and Crystal Hinton (Brian) of Tyler, TX. Lane was known as Pops to his precious grandchildren: Olivia, Allison, Hannah, McKinley, Cora and Shawn. Lane’s siblings include Londa Huggler, of Omaha, NE and Nathan Hyde (Desha) of Mansfield, TX, as well as cherished nieces and nephews. We would be remiss to not mention his ‘hound dog’, Rufus – the 10-year-old Yorkie who loved him dearly. Lane’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of the South Plains, Diana Zamarripa, Anna Mireles, and Angel DeLaCruz for their endearing care given to Lane during his illness. Memorial Services will be held at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church (9507 Indiana Avenue, Lubbock, TX) on Tuesday, November 29th at 10:00 AM. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, Lane’s family requests that donations be made in his memory to Texas Girls & Boys Ranch at www.txgbr.org.
