Dorothy Lathey Obituary

Dorothy “Jean” Lathey, 66, of Lubbock, passed away on December 16, 2021. She was born on January 10, 1955 in Mark Tree, Arkansas to James & Lilly (Audree) Shoumake. Jean married the love of her life Martin Lathey on February 7, 1985. Jean enjoyed being around her family and friends but most of all, she loved seeing her grandchildren. Jean also enjoyed a good game of Skip-Bo or Phase 10. She always made everyone feel welcomed, loved and accepted everyone for who they were. Everyone ended up calling her mom.

Those left to cherish her memories is her husband of 36 years, Martin Lathey; her children, Dorothy Birmingham, James “Tiger” Birmingham, Miriam Booth (Bruce), Abigail Tompkins (Lucas), Amber Vasquez (Mike), Jennifer Cochran (Josh), Jamie Lathey; one brother Eddie Shoumake (Loretta); Mother in Law Catherine Lathey; Brother in law Butch Lathey (Joyce); lots of nieces and nephews. Jean had 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, James & Lilly Shoumake; Father in law, Theodore Lathey; Sister in laws, Michelle Hixon & Kitty Lathey.

Celebration of Life Service for Dorothy “Jean” Lathey will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 6:00pm at Heart of Worship Church, 19101 FM 1730, Lubbock, Texas 79424 with Phillip Brown Officiating
