Donnie Bridgers Obituary

Donnie was born in Wichita, Kansas…he was a Navy brat.  His mother and 3 siblings relocated to Lubbock, TX when Donnie was 5 years old.  He played little league baseball with his big brother Ricky in Lubbock’s Western Little league.  He loved sports. He enjoyed bowling and been a member of numerous bowling leagues through the years in Lubbock.  He graduated from Frenship High School in 1974. He loved the Minnesota Vikings. Donnie married Mary Joyce Labadie on May 9, 1998 in Lubbock.

Donnie passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer.  His brother Ricky and sister-in-law Pat were instrumental in providing him with loving care in their home throughout the past 2 years of his illness where he died peacefully in his sleep.  Donnie had professed Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was taken into His loving arms early Sunday morning.

Donnie loved to laugh and joke around. He cared about and loved people.  He would have and many times did, give his last dollar to someone who needed it…even if he needed it more.  He was a workaholic.  Whereas, most people live to get to retirement and not have to work, all he wanted to do was work.  He loved working in the yard and being outside.  He worked for the Native Texan Restaurant for about 30 years, until they closed the doors.  He then worked at Covenant Hospital until he was forced into retirement by his illness.  Everyone knew Donnie as a  dependable and hard worker.

Survived by his mother, Connie Cox of Arlington, TX, a sister, Carolyn Grotz of Mansfield, TX, 2 brothers, Rick Bridgers of Lubbock and Jim Bridgers of Brownfield, a niece, Sara Urquidez of Dallas and an Uncle, Don Bridgers of Jacksonville Florida.

In addition, he was survived by his wife, Mary Joyce Labadie, 4 step-children, Phillip Funk, Marty Funk, Sherry Dickerson and Rex Labadie, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  A brother in law- Ronnie Holdren, sister in law Suzanne Henley, and a host of friends.

He was a good man, a good brother, son and a good husband.  He was loved very much by all who knew him.
