DeMaris Ann Rumpel

DeMaris Ann Rumpel, age 76, went to be with our Lord, March 13, 2020 at Crownpoint Rehabilitation Center in Lubbock, TX, following a stroke in January.

Dee was born July 6, 1943 to Alvin and Mary Engum in Athens, GA. Their family relocated to Hixton in 1943.  She graduated Hixton High School in 1961 and married Anthony John Rumpel on December 11, 1962.   Dee was a bookkeeper until 1983 when she found her true calling.  She went to nursing school at All Saints Episcopal Hospital and became an LVN in Ft Worth, TX.  In 1995.  Dee & Tony relocated to Lubbock, TX where Dee went to work at UMC for the rest of her career.  She retired from UMC in 2013.   Dee was a nurse for over 25 years and loved patient care.  She took care of critical care patients, burn victims and loved working with the new born babies.  

Dee enjoyed music, dancing, rescuing stray animals and roadtrips visiting family and friends with her husband Tony.  She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.  

Dee is survived by her husband of 58 years Anthony Rumpel, sister Annette (Richard) Skaar or Gravois Mills, MO and Sheila Engum of Vernon, FL, her daughter Deborah (Jon) Niemeyer,  2 grandchildren - Jacob Niemeyer and Lillie Niemeyer as well as one great grandchild - Mya Niemeyer.    Dee was preceded in death by her daughter Tammy Lynn Rumpel and her parents.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Genesis Baptist Fellowship with her friend Deacon Rusty Pierce and Son In Law- Minister Jon Niemeyer officiating.
