Bertha Juadalupe Barrera

Bertha Juadalupe Vera Barrera passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 surrounded by her
beloved family. Born in Lamesa, Texas on June 17, 1955, Bertha grew up in Roma, Texas with
her ten brothers and sisters in a tight knit, loving family, and love of family was Bertha’s
defining characteristic for the remainder of her life. She married Gilbert Ross Barrera, Sr., the
love of her life on January 20, 1979, and built a beautiful family together over the next four
decades around their beloved children, Mona and Gil. Bertha was a fixture in her community in
Lamesa, and worked for many years as a baker at Claiborne’s before retiring to spend more
time spoiling her granddaughter. As a child, Bertha loved being physically active, climbing trees,
and valued education. Her most important priority in life became her children’s education, and
she was a proud mom of two college graduates. She loved frogs, nature, and listening to music.
She also loved Jesus, her family, and, most deeply, her granddaughter Preslee. Bertha provided
wise counsel, support, and most of all love to her family. She lived a life filled with love, and
built a beautiful, dedicated, and most importantly loving family that will be her legacy. She
leaves behind her beloved husband, Gilbert Ross Barrera, Sr., 66; her children, Ramona
Christana Barrera, 43, and Gilbert Ross Barrera II, 42; and one granddaughter, Preslee Rae
Barrera-Covarrubio, 12. In addition, she is survived by her siblings and their families, Jesus Vera,
80; Emilio Vera, 78; Amelia A. Vera, 76; San Juanita Vera Espinosa, 73; Obdulia Vazquez Vera,
66; Gilbert Vera, 65; and Carmen Reyes Vera, 60.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
