Avis Henderson Obituary

Avis Renée Mahaffey Henderson, age 58 of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 5.  She was born in Lubbock on March 17, 1957, the daughter of the late Wayne Eugene Mahaffey and Avis Drury Mahaffey. She married M. Thomas Henderson on August 6, 1983.  Living in Massachusetts, California, Ohio, Texas, New York, South Carolina and Illinois, Renée worked outside the home as a certified Montesorri Infant / Toddler Caregiver, helping start up and support several different child care programs.  Working inside the home, Renée was a parent and homemaker for her son Marshall T. Henderson III, daughter Arden and husband Tom.  She had moved back to Lubbock from Long Island, New York, in 2013. In addition to her father, Wayne, Renée was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Mahaffey. Renée is survived by her mother, Avis Drury Mahaffey, of Lubbock.  She is survived by her son, Marshall, of Hiram, Georgia, and her daughter and son-in-law, Arden and Andrew Ward, of Shelter Island, New York.  She is also survived by her sister, Rebecca Dana of Lubbock and her son Steven Dana; by her brother and sister-in-law David and Mary Jane Mahaffey of Lubbock and their two daughters, Jennifer and Misty and their families; by her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Carri Mahaffey of Amarillo and their three sons, Paul, Trent and Troy; and by her brother and sister-in-law Ron and Sharon Mahaffey of New Mexico. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Quaker Avenue Church of Christ on Saturday, June 6, 2015. Memorial donations may be made to CaringBridge.org or to the American Heart Association.
