Annette Thomas

June 8, 1959 ~ January 29, 2020 (age 60)

Annette Porter Thomas, age 60, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at her home in Lubbock.  She was born in Mesa, Arizona on June 8, 1959 to Kenneth Earl Porter and Bertha Davis Boyer.

Annette's early childhood was spent in Mesa. Later she moved to Tempe, AZ where she attended Marcos de Niza High School.  While living in Tempe she met and married her eternal sweetheart, Flood Niels Thomas, in 1985.  After marrying, they moved to Mesa and began raising a family of 5 boys.  At that time, Annette worked with her sister Michele and their father at The Thing Shop in Phoenix where she learned bookkeeping and accounting skills.

In 2002, Flood and Annette decided to move their family to Lubbock, Texas in order to be closer to Flood's family.  Annette took a job with Bruce Thornton Air Conditioning where she worked her way to the position of Controller working until two weeks before her death.  The company and her friends there have been extremely kind, generous and supportive all throughout Annette's 11-year battle with cancer.  Annette was also active in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held a number of different callings.  Most recently, she and Flood completed a calling of six years of Temple Service in the LDS Temple.

Annette will be fondly remembered by all who knew and worked with her and she will be greatly missed.  During her long battle with cancer, she rarely complained but simply got on with the task at hand.  She was hard-working, kind, and fun-loving with a wonderfully dry sense of humor.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Diana Porter Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Flood Niels Thomas, her five sons, F. Niels Thomas and his wife Laura, Jeb Thomas and his wife Sophia, Owen Thomas and his wife Kasia, Daniel Thomas and David Thomas as well as four grandchildren:  Brianna, Alyssa, Julia and Scout. Other survivors include one brother David Ross Porter and two sisters Michele Porter Dustman and Gilda Porter. She will be greatly missed by numerous nephews and nieces who knew her as Aunt Nettie.

The Memorial Service for Annette will be held Saturday February 8th at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3211 58th Street in Lubbock, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, Annette has asked for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.  (800) 992-2623.
