Villis Walstad Obituary A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 10, 2011, at Southcrest Baptist Church, 3801 South Loop 289, Lubbock TX. Villis was born in Sacramento, CA on February 11, 1948, first child of Emma Nell and Paul Spriggs. She moved with her parents to Anchorage, Alaska in 1951. In 1957, Her family moved near to Delta Junction, homesteading in the Clearwater area. Villis graduated from the Fort Greeley High School in 1966, moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, attending the University of Alaska where she met the love of her life, David Walstad. They were married on March 9, 1968 and have two sons, Therran and Sean. After leaving Fairbanks in 1991 and spending three years in Lincoln, Nebraska, Villis and her husband moved on to Fort Worth, Texas where Villis worked in the Information Technology department of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary earning her PhT degree (Putting hubby Through) and where David took music classes, receiving his Master of Music degree in 1998. God called the couple to Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico, where Villis served faithfully and unselfishly alongside her husband in Senior Adult and Music ministries, working behind the scenes in musical drama and organizing ministries, teas, activities, and trips for the seniors. Villis was very talented in Arts and Crafts, which she used in the home and in ministry. In 2004, Villis was stricken by a serious stroke followed by declining health coupled with Post Polio Sequella. David retired in June of 2005 and the couple moved to Lubbock, TX to be near the medical support Villis needed. In the early afternoon hours of October 6, 2011, the LORD saw fit to deliver her from all her suffering and took her home to heaven. Villis is survived by her husband, David Walstad of Lubbock; two sons, Therran, of Anchorage, AK and Sean of Aurora, CO; her mother Emma Nell Young of Pine Bluff, AR; two sisters, Doris Montanez of Bakersfield, CA, and Pauline Reya of Pine Bluff, AR; and a brother, David Spriggs of Pasadena, TX.
