Obituary

Turner Clark, JR Obituary Major Turner R. Clark, Jr "Reggie", 73, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, September 14, 2024. Reggie was born on February 10, 1951, in Houston, Texas. His family moved to Clarksville, Arkansas where he attended Michie Elementary, Clarksville Junior High, and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1969. He stayed in Clarksville to attend classes at the College of the Ozarks, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in December 1972. Reggie met his wife Rebecca Shaw at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX in 1973 while he was going through pilot training at Reese Air Force Base. They were married in Atwater, California, July 20, 1974. Reggie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972-1992 as a pilot and instructor pilot retiring as a Major, in December 1992 at Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, TX. He enjoyed teaching, he loved sharing his knowledge with others and building their confidence in themselves to complete assignments and projects. After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a civilian contractor, continuing to teach pilots how to fly. He also drove semi-truck routes transporting mail from rural post offices to the San Antonio Post office and later the Dallas Post Office. On his days off from work he enjoyed driving the SouthCrest bus for school field trips, church youth and senior adult trips. After retiring from all his civilian jobs he started volunteering at SouthCrest Christian School in the cafeteria to keep his sweet wife Rebecca company at her job. He has been working every school day with her for the last 10 years. From a young age on the Clark Farm, Reggie was drawn to anything with an engine. He loved to race go-karts, sprint cars, ride motorcycles and drive his 1974 Corvette. When he wasn't working you could often find him in the garage reloading ammunition or out in the barn tinkering on an engine. Reggie loved the Lord and wanted to share the wonderful message of our Savior with everyone. He would find common interests to connect with anyone he met and then find ways to talk about their walk with Jesus. Reggie wants everyone to be excited about their salvation as they are hearing about his favorite pastimes of airplanes, racecars, motorcycles, engines of all kinds, and ammo reloading. Reggie was ordained a deacon on March 17, 1985, at Huber Heights Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio and transferred to SouthCrest Baptist Church in 1993 where he continued to faithfully serve. He enjoyed being a door greeter on Sundays, teaching Sunday School, doing hospital visitations and helping the elderly with tasks at their homes. Reggie had such a servant's heart and was willing to help anywhere he was needed. Reggie loved his two sons, Jeff and Stephen Clark, and the men they grew up to become. He was very welcoming and encouraging to Sterling Burchett and Hollie Loken when they joined the family and loved being "Pappy" and spending time with the grandkids that followed, Caleb, Ellis and Major Clark. Reggie was preceded in death by his parents, Turner and Ina Mae Clark, and his sister Elizabeth Meek. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Clark, son Jeff, Sterling, Ellis and Major, son Stephen, Hollie, and Caleb, brother-in-law Donald Meek, nephew Bobby (Melissa) Meek, niece Chris (Greg) Arnold, nephew Fred Meek, all of their children and grandchildren, and many friends and loved ones.
