Tessa Beauchamp Obituary Tessa Jhas Beauchamp, 73, died at home with family and friends by her side on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024. She was born Gertrude Jane Myers on February 13, 1951, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., the third child of Homer Myers, Sr. and Marie Beauchamp Myers. The family lived in Weston, Mass., Lexington, Ky., and Delano, Calif. Tess was an outstanding student but a free spirit, dropping out of Loyola of Marymount, a Jesuit university, during her first semester. She worked at Ben Frank's, an iconic coffee shop on Hollywood Blvd. She spoke of her adventures hitch hiking to work from a commune in Topanga Canyon. She later worked at an engineering firm, then moved to Puerto Rico. It was there she met Mike Byrne. They married and moved to San Francisco, where she renovated a house and opened a needlepoint shop. They divorced after 8 years. She began working as a maritime insurance broker, spending long periods in London. During this time, she married Larry Henson, a maritime lawyer and retired admiral. After 8 years, they ended their marriage. She later met and married Michael Leach, her loving partner and husband for 34 years. For both, it was love at first sight. They traveled extensively in Europe, where they witnessed the 1990 unification of Germany and then settled in Seattle. She became a well-respected SHEN therapist and instructor, teaching classes in America, Canada, Scotland and Ireland. They trekked in Nepal and Tess made trips to India, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. In 2005, she and Michael moved to Lubbock, Tex., where he was raised and his family resided. Tess dreamed of running her own restaurant and bought Stein's, in downtown Lubbock, which she ran for several years. Tess covered the walls with Michael's vintage rock posters, hired a capable and devoted staff and developed a loyal following. It was through Stein's that she and Michael met many of their Lubbock friends. Tess was well-read and self-taught in many areas. She spoke French, was a mathematician, baker, poet, writer, artist and gardener. Tess was ill with cancer for her last 2 years. Tess was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marie Beauchamp Myers, brother, Homer Myers, Jr., and father, Homer Myers, Sr. Tess is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Leach, of Lubbock, Tex., her brother, Booth Myers, sister, Mary Elizabeth Martin, nephews Jason Myers and Nathaniel Martin, and niece, Alison Hefty.
