Obituary

An incredibly bright light was extinguished on October 25, 2026.

Terry Rodgers, 78, of Lubbock, Texas passed away peacefully at his home. Terry is survived by wife of 47 years, Kathy, and their son, Robert.

Born April 21, 1948, Terry bounced around between West Texas and Eastern New Mexico towns until his family settled back in Lubbock. Here he was a member of the first graduating class of Coronado High School, where his son is now the choir director.

Terry also attended Texas Tech University where he earned his M.Ed in English Literature. To be around his family more, he worked as an independent paint contractor, and painted all of the Town & Country stores (now Stripes) in West Texas, extending toward DFW, and Eastern New Mexico.

He attended St Matthew Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir for many years, a Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church who preached all around West Texas, and he was the Chair of the Methodist Men’s Group. He maintained an incredible knowledge of scripture, and the ability to convey it to anyone who needed it, and those who didn’t know they needed it at the time.

Terry was the ultimate caretaker. He loved often, and he loved fiercely. He was a trusted prayer warrior, and was known for making it a point to pray for those who prayed over him. He loved music, and he made music until the end. He loved his family, and he took care of and thought of them until the end. He loved to fish, and would’ve fished in any pothole big enough to fill up with water. He loved Texas Tech and all Dallas sports and enjoyed watching with his wife and texting his son through all the victories and disappointments.

He was an especially avid supporter of his son and his career, and he made every effort he could to attend every recital, concert, or contest that his son was involved in as a performer or director. Many of his son’s friends and former students distinctly remember how important Terry made them feel, both as performers and as people.

A celebration of life is being planned for Saturday, November 21 at St. Matthew Methodist Church (5320 50th St. Lubbock, Tx). Please plan to wear brighter colors, as there was no darkness in Terry. More details will be provided soon.
