Simmon Owens, JR. Obituary Mr. Simmon "Shorty" Harwood Owens Jr., passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024. Shorty was 72 years old. He is proceeded in death by his father, Simmon Harwood Owens Sr. and his mother, Mary Lou Julian Owens. He is survived by his brother and best friend Jerry Wayne Owens. He leaves behind many family members who loved him dearly. He was born June 23,1951 in Tahoka, Texas. Later Shorty would go on to enlist and serve his country in the Army in 1970, where he drove a 5ton US army truck with trailer to transport cargo to the officers and was honorably discharged October 15,1976 when his duty was done. Shorty worked many years as a parts manager at Smith Ford in Slaton and then in 2016 he began to work as a site driver for Goodwill. He was, as all Owens' are, a Cowboys fan. He loved his Cowboys and loved watching football with his brother and best friend Jerry Wayne. In his pasttime he would go to play Bingo with his brother, ride his 4wheeler, and loved to tinker with electronics and work with his tools. He loved dogs and loved and spoiled his recent dog Charlie. He was a very sweet man and very quiet in his demeanor, but he was a man that would do anything and everything for his family to make sure they were taken care of, especially his brother Jerry Wayne. The graveside service for our beloved Shorty will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 @ 2:00pm @ Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park - located @ 15602 TX-493 Loop, Lubbock, TX 79423 Services
