Sean Richard
Hughes
Apr 10, 2001 — Mar 23, 2026
Sean Richard Hughes, born April 10, 2001, in Lancaster, California, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. Just shy of his 25th birthday, he left this world far too soon for those who knew and loved him. Yet in his 24 years, Sean built a legacy of love, friendship, and deep connection—living with passion and always caring for others.
Sean was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend—so much more than words can capture. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impression wherever he went. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Timothy and Elizabeth, and his siblings Andrew, Amanda, and Seth. He was preceded in death by many loved ones, both family and friends. They, along with those who remain, were the center of his world. Sean cherished every moment spent with them.
Throughout his life, Sean lived in Palmdale, California; Burwell, England; San Antonio, Texas; and, most recently, Lubbock, Texas. He also traveled to Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland, and beyond. While these places shaped his journey, it was the people he met who defined it. Sean had a rare gift for forming genuine, lasting friendships that spanned continents. From California to Florida, Illinois to England and Argentina, his presence is remembered by those he touched around the world.
Sean graduated from Lakenheath American High School, England, in May 2019. He then answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. Following his service, he pursued his passion for helping others by studying biology at Texas Tech University, with the goal of becoming a physician. In May 2026, he will be awarded his bachelor's degree in Arts and Science, posthumously—a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and desire to serve others. It also reflects the strength and support of the Red Raider community.
Sean's early life was anchored in his Christian faith. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and drew strength and purpose from that relationship. He encouraged others in their faith, sharing the hope that sustained him. His family takes comfort in knowing that Sean is now in Heaven with our Lord and reunited with Max, Guyla, and Nana Jeannie—at peace and free from pain.
Sean had struggles, as we all do, yet he loved the Lord sincerely, and God used Sean as he was. From that love, he showed genuine care and compassion for others.
Sean's passing at such a young age leaves an immeasurable void. He had so much life ahead of him, so much passion, and so much more to give. While the reasons for his passing are not ours to understand this side of Heaven, his family holds fast to their faith, trusting in God's plan and praying that Sean's life—and even his death—may inspire others to follow Christ. In his time here, Sean loved deeply, laughed often, and brought light to everyone around him.
He will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
Rest in peace, Seannie.
