Sammy Zapata, age 19, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on July 10, 2026. He was born on September 15, 2006, in Levelland, Texas. He lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a genuine love for the people and places that brought him joy.
Sammy lived with his grandparents, Pete and Patricia Lara. Sammy lived with them the majority of his life. Sammy cherished the moments spent cooking with his grandfather. He loved to grill outside. These are moments that created lasting memories and reflected the importance he placed on family.
Sammy worked at a local grocery store in Lubbock as a stocker, where he was known for his dependable nature and steady work ethic. He approached his responsibilities with humility and a willingness to help, and he earned the respect of those around him through his generous heart and kind demeanor.
Outside of work, Sammy found happiness in traveling. He loved visiting Colorado with Esther and brother to see his friends and hiking in the mountains, where he enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors and the peace that came with being in nature. Sammy loved his cat, Fiona and cared for her dearly. He would do anything for her, and his affection for her was yet another reflection of his gentle and loving nature.
Sammy also enjoyed sharing special outings with his stepmother, Esther, including visits to art exhibits and the local farmer's market. These times together were filled with conversation, connection, and shared experiences that he valued deeply.
Sammy enjoyed getting to hang out with his uncle Erik most recently taking a trip to Dallas going to a Rangers game and shopping. He valued the importance of being together and supporting family, loving each moment he got to hang out with Erik and wife Lynsey.
He especially treasured time with his big brother Daniel, whether they were playing video games, going out to eat, watching movies, shopping, or traveling. Their bond was one of companionship and friendship, and it brought Sammy great happiness throughout his life. He was also a faithful member of Southcrest Baptist Church, where he enjoyed attending Sunday morning services. His church community was an important part of his life, and he found comfort and fellowship in being among others who shared his faith.
