Ross Neil
Ainsworth
Nov 4, 1946 — Dec 22, 2025
Ross Ainsworth Obituary Ross Neil Ainsworth was born in Lubbock, Texas, on November 4, 1946, to Nelson Dude and Mary Marie (Six) Ainsworth. Ross was a man of uncontainable character. He is best described as a man who displayed equal parts loving kindness and a zest for life that was mixed heavily with ridiculous antics that evoked both laughter and frustration. His children recall many times he would take his dentures out at a restaurant to clean them with his pocket knife-never concerned with what anyone thought. Ross was not a perfect man; however, his ups and downs in life created a deeply nonjudgmental man. Ross will be remembered for his devotion to cigarettes, coffee, and God. He would smoke with and pray for anyone in need. Ross did not perceive barriers in life. Because of this, he could find his way into any restricted area and escape from any place he was meant to be. Due to having no barriers, he often gave money to strangers, rides to hitchhikers, and used many unconventional methods to direct his steps in life. This caused others around him both embarrassment and encouragement. Ross figuratively and literally saw the world differently. Even into old age, one eye saw perfectly far away while the other could read close script. He was an avid reader on a vast number of subjects and wrote in cursive as beautiful as calligraphy. Over and over, he proved himself to have more knowledge on subjects than any one person should. Since Ross saw the world in his own way, he had no problem attempting different ways to live and make a living. Throughout his life, he was the ultimate entrepreneur and problem solver. He held a patent for a piece of equipment that solved a problem on a water well rig. At different times, he was a rancher, farmer, land-man, welder, oil and water well driller, wind-miller, dowser, auctioneer, Air Force veteran, missionary, trader, and an all-around good friend to many who had lost hope and needed a friend. Ross passed away in Lubbock, Texas, on December 22, 2025, after suffering a stroke. He lived many years in Milnesand, New Mexico, followed by Snyder, Texas, but at the time of his death, Ross and his wife Olivia called Lubbock their home. He is survived by his wife Olivia; his sister Mary Nell Hays (Larry) of Lakewood, Colorado; his children and grandchildren: Ryan Ainsworth (Heather) and children Addi Rae, Molly, and Rylee; Rossi Terry (Damon) and children Eli (Emily), Ali May, and Asa; Theta Perez (Jake) and children Summit, Max Slate; stepson Chris Shultz (Tish) and children Emily Isbell (Collin) and Savannah Crawford (Bryce); and a notable cousin, Clay Ainsworth. Ross was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Emma Ainsworth. Ross will be cremated, and a celebration of life service will be held at Dora Senior Center on Saturday, January 3rd at 10:00am. In his memory, we ask that you pray for and help someone in need. If you cannot make the ceremony, please email your favorite story of Ross to ryanswater@yahoo.com. Timely or belated condolences are welcome, as Ross was never constrained by formal timelines.
