Romeo Reyna Obituary Romeo R. Reyna LUBBOCK-A man once said we are the stories we tell. No one embodied that phrase more than Romeo R. Reyna, who passed away in Lubbock, Texas on April 26, 2016. More importantly was the way in which he shared his 80-year tale. The many family and friends who had the pleasure of knowing him heard repeated stories of his childhood as a migrant worker throughout Texas, and his international travels while enlisted for eight years in the United States Army. Reyna gave account to the wonderful friendships he made while following his passion as an accomplished artist: First as a student at Chicago Art Institute (the youngest student to ever be accepted at that time), Art Center in Los Angeles, and the Otis Art Institute, then in Laguna Beach, CA, where he resided for decades, and finally in Lubbock. His fiber art has been celebrated in various places throughout the country and featured several times in Architectural Digest. Romeo came up with the name for Lubbock's celebrated annual Take in the Local Color! Artist Studio Tour nearly twenty years ago. Even if you were lucky enough to hear one of Romeo's stories more than once, twice, or three times, it was the twinkle in his eye and the impetuous passion in his voice that left the listener still wanting to experience those moments. Romeo's story is a beautiful one. Not because he was blessed with striking features that allowed him to work as a model in his youth, rather, it was because of the unceasing generosity he shared with all who surrounded him. Romeo was quick to support friends and especially family without regard for himself. Romeo's appreciation of life and all things beautiful guided him in so many of his choices and explained his desire to surround himself with bountiful gardens and lush flowers that he tended until his last days. He cherished the numerous cats and dogs he cared for through the years. Most importantly to him were the people. Although no one could ever treasure the note of a song or savor the taste of a freshly picked tomato as Romeo, they felt that much more alive because it was shared with a man who knew no other way to live. A celebration of his life will be held in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, 15602 TX-493 Loop, Lubbock, Texas, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Services
