Obituary

Robert Duane Paul Jackson, known lovingly to family and friends as Bob, passed away on August 16, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 76.

Bob was born on February 9, 1950, in Sendai, Honshu, Japan, and from the beginning he carried with him a spirit that would take him across countries, through military service, and into the hearts of many who knew him. He lived a life marked by courage, hard work, humor, and devotion to the people and pursuits he loved. Those who knew him best will remember him as someone who had a joke for everyone and always loved telling stories. His presence brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.

Bob served his country with honor as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army receiving a Bronze Star Medal as well as Air Medal for his duty as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, a role that required skill, discipline, and bravery. His service reflected his willingness to face great responsibility and his steadfast commitment to duty. He also received the Army Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. That chapter of his life remained an important part of who he was, and it stood as a testament to his strength and character.

After his military service, Bob worked for many years selling pictures for Olan Mills, where his charm and personable nature served him well. He later worked as a correctional officer at the Montford Psychiatric Prison, continuing a life of service and responsibility in a different capacity.

Bob had many interests that reflected his adventurous nature and appreciation for both craftsmanship and history. He loved traveling and camping was his favorite past time. He loved collecting guns, knives, watches, and motorcycles, and he took genuine enjoyment in the stories and details behind each item. Always looking for a good deal or trade. These collections were more than hobbies to him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Robba Lee Wilson, his father, Duane Jackson, and his sisters, Rhonda Cozart and Beverly Jones. Their memories remained close to him throughout his life, and they are now reunited in eternal rest.

He is survived by his eldest daughter Meredith Carpenter of Sundance, WY along with her daughter Kilee Carpenter, his other daughter Vanessa Scott along with her husband Aaron and their children Axel and Remington of Highland Village, TX. He is also survived by his two brothers in law and multiple nieces and nephews.

Bob will be remembered for the way he lived with humor, courage, and heart. He was a man who enjoyed life, valued loyalty, and found joy in the simple and meaningful things that made each day memorable. His adventurous spirit led him into remarkable experiences, while his talkative nature made him a source of companionship to those around him. He had a way of making people laugh, and his stories and jokes will be remembered with fondness by all who had the pleasure of hearing them.

Though he has left this world, Bob's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was one of service, hard work, and personal passion, and he leaves behind a legacy of resilience and good humor. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and respect.

Bob did not want a funeral but we plan to honor his military service with a service salute next year at Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota where he loved traveling with his granddaughter, Kilee.
