Rachel Irene
Bayless
Dec 2, 1927 — Jul 22, 2014
Rachel Bayless Obituary Rachel Irene Bayless was born December 2, 1927 in McCook, NE and left this world in peace, surrounded by family, on July 22, 2014. Rachel was a true Nebraska farm girl who never lost the values of hard work, service, and faith. She married the love of her life, Sam, on June 1, 1955. Together they raised six wonderful children and traveled the world. They settled in Altus, OK in 1971. Rachel's life work as a nurse practitioner was dedicated to caring for those often forgotten and downtrodden in this world. That same dedication carried over into her personal ministry and she always offered help of some kind - prayer, a meal, a friendly shoulder - to those in need. Friends and family knew her to be a woman of character, kindness, and grace. Rachel and Sam were devoted members of Grace United Methodist Church in Altus, OK for 37 years. She loved time with her large family and nothing brought her more joy than presenting them to her church community at Sunday morning services at Grace. Music was the language of Rachel's soul and even in her final days she sang joyfully with her husband and children. She spent the last seven years of her life in Lubbock, TX and her gentle spirit continued to touch the lives of those she met there. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but there is joy in knowing that she is again made whole in God's loving kingdom. Rachel is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Josephine Allen, her siblings Merritt Allen, Joseph Allen, Wayne Allen, Edith Baird, and her son, Daniel Bayless. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Sam Bayless, and her children Mary and Dave Croskey of Eugene, OR, Carla and James Mahan of Lubbock, TX, Carol and Ted Humphrey of Greensburg, IN, Paul and Izumi Bayless of Fort Davie, FL, and Laura and Paul Lewis of Alexandria, VA. She also leaves a legacy of 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Agape Methodist Church in Lubbock on Friday, July 25th at 11AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Grace Methodist Church in Altus, OK, Agape Methodist Church in Lubbock, TX, or Feed the Children. Arrangements were entrusted to Agape Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Lubbock.
