Obituary

Pamela Jo Roberts Hammerle, 73, of Lubbock, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 1, 2026 under the care of Bridge Hospice of Lubbock. Pam was born June 13, 1952 in Lubbock to Hershell and Julia Rhea Roberts. She grew up in Levelland, Texas where she graduated from Levelland High School in 1970. Pam went on to South Plains College, where she met the love of her life, John Hammerle. They graduated from South Plains in 1972 and went on to Texas Tech University together. Pam received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a Major in Art and Minor in English. She graduated in May of 1974 and married John the week after graduation on May 19, 1974.

Pam's teaching career began at Estacado High School in Lubbock, where she taught English for one year before moving to Matthews Junior High to teach Art. In 1977 John was hired by AMOCO, and the young couple moved to Hobbs, NM for his new career.

While in Hobbs, Pam and John had two daughters, Whitney and Kaimey. Pam enjoyed being a homemaker and serving on the PTA and as "room mom" for her girls' classes for many years. The family was active at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) where Pam taught Sunday School and served on the Children's Council, as a Youth Group Sponsor, and on several other committees over the 25 years they were members.

Pam used her incredible artistic talents in so many areas of service to the Hobbs community. She designed and painted murals at Highland Junior High School, Heizer Junior High School, Mills Elementary School, and FUMC. She sewed countless costumes for Maciolek School of Dance's recitals and productions, and she created set designs for the children's ministry programs of FUMC, Maciolek, and the girls' school productions.

As her girls got older, Pam became the art teacher at Hobbs High School, serving and influencing hundreds of students over her eight years there. She enjoyed being at the school with her girls and their friends. During their junior high and high school years, Pam enjoyed going on trips with the church youth group and youth choir and attending their camps as a leader.

Pam and John moved to Denver City, Texas in 2002 for John's work. Pam retired from teaching with the move, and she enjoyed being an active member of FUMC there and especially getting to spend more time with extended family.

In 2006 they moved back to Lubbock, building a house and becoming one of the first residents in Vintage Township, a neighborhood Pam adored for 20 years. Pam and John joined St. Luke's Methodist Church and built strong friendships through their Sunday School class there.

Pam enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and was blessed to experience some incredible sites, particularly the art and architecture of Italy and the Holy Land of Israel. Above all, she found her greatest joys in being John's wife, a mom to her two girls, and "Mia" to her four grandchildren. She made sure to be at every soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse, tennis, rowing, dance, piano, violin, and cheerleading events she could! She was delighted by everything they did and who they are.

Her loved ones will remember Pam for the impact she made on their hearts. She was intentional with her love, always full of wisdom and knowing the right thing to say in the right moment. She found joy in everything, even the difficult moments, and continually pointed people to God. She laughed easily and often. Serving her friends and bringing encouragement to others brought her the most joy.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Kaye Brown; and brother-in-law, David Brown.

She is survived by her husband John; daughters Whitney (Todd) Herion of Atlanta, GA and Kaimey (Scott) Ela of Austin, TX; her grandchildren, Matthew and Kate Herion, and Hudson and Harper Ela; sister Jan (Ronnie) Kinney of Lubbock, and brother James (Dorothy) Roberts of Odessa. Pam was blessed to also be close with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
