Mona Misty Barrera was born on October 1, 1969, in Lubbock, Texas, and peacefully passed away on August 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Olivia and Daniel Garza and the devoted wife of her late husband, Jamie Silvas. Together, Mona and Jamie shared 35 beautiful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, family, and countless memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them.
Mona was preceded in death by her beloved son, Luis Barrera, and her cherished granddaughter, Nyra Holland. Their memories remained a treasured part of her heart and her life.
Mona leaves behind her loving daughters, Brandi Barrera and LaVonda Barrera; her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Palacios; her treasured grandchildren; and many beloved family members and friends. Each person who knew Mona carries a special memory of her and the love she so freely gave.
Throughout her life, Mona found purpose in caring for others. As a caregiver, she devoted herself to helping those in need, always offering compassion, patience, and kindness. She had a creative spirit and found joy in crafting, woodworking, painting, and creating beautiful things with her own hands. Her creativity was one of the many ways she expressed the love that came so naturally to her.
But above all else, Mona cherished her family. She treasured the simple moments—gathering around the table for a meal, celebrating birthdays and milestones, sharing laughter, and creating memories with the people she loved most. Those moments, both big and small, are now among the greatest gifts she leaves behind.
Mona had a generous heart, a warm smile, and a joyful spirit that made people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. She had a way of bringing warmth wherever she went, and her presence touched the lives of many.
Mona taught us the true meaning of family, compassion, perseverance, and unconditional love. Her laughter had a way of brightening every room, her warm embrace brought comfort in times of need, and her generous heart touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know he
