Marvin Eugene
Bagwell
May 15, 1959 — Jun 4, 2026
Marvin Eugene Bagwell, 67, passed away on June 4, 2026. Eugene- or "Gene" as some knew him- was born on May 15, 1959 in Brownfield, Texas to Thomas "Wayne" and Bertie Mae Bagwell.
As a child, Eugene enjoyed playing the Yo-Yo, but he developed a 'reel' passion for fishing. From a young age, he'd pick up a rod and reel and head to local lakes with his siblings.
In 1977, he graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock before attending some college classes at Texas Tech University.
He left university life and chose a career in truck driving. His work with McLane and Walmart took him across multiple states. After many years on the road, he retired to enjoy the little things in life he loved including fishing on the lake, caring for his chickens, growing his garden, smoking his world famous brisket, playing with his grand daughters and visiting his friends and family.
He loved spending time with Jerry Taylor during their fishing tournaments where, unsurprisingly, they'd catch fish of all shapes and sizes. Their catches even led to them winning some competitions but, for Eugene, just being on the open water was a win in itself.
While he was good at dropping lines on the water, he made sure he carried that skill with him off the water. He liked to socialize and would answer a call or text at the drop of a hat with his "Yello" that became his go-to greeting. He brought smiles to the faces of all who were fortunate enough to get to know him. There is no mistaking that his big heart- and sense of humor- played a role in his charisma.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, stepmother, Laura "Ruth" Bagwell, sister, Janice Hillhouse, brother, Donald Bagwell, aunt, Bobbye Powell and uncle, Coyt Powell. He is survived by his daughters, Laura Mae Bagwell and Joan Burke, his twin sister, Pauline Taylor, his uncle, E.L. Hogg, his dear friend, Star Eiting, and many other close friends and extended family.
Family, friends and others whose lives Eugene touched are invited to celebrate his life and memory. A viewing will be held at Agape Funeral Chapel, 6625 19th St. #103 Lubbock, TX 79407, on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2 p.m. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m.
