Marlin Mills Obituary Marlin Dale Mills, 84, of Lubbock passed away at his residence on June 11, 2025. He was born on November 7, 1940 to Leslie Joel and Florence (Watts) Mills in Randlett, Oklahoma About 18 years, Marlin owned and operated Mills Machine Shop in Muleshoe, Texas and then decided to pursue a degree in engineering. Marlin was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University, and he earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He was an Associate Professor at South Plains College and dedicated his career to teaching and mentoring students in the machine trade. He was deeply respected by colleagues and students alike for his technical knowledge, steady guidance, and passion for craftsmanship. Outside the classroom, Marlin had a lifelong love of learning, especially when it came to science and the solar system. He was endlessly curious and enjoyed exploring the universe through books, documentaries, and thoughtful conversations. He also found daily joy in doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper-a quiet ritual that reflected his sharp mind. His passion for knowledge was unquenchable. His wonder for the natural world was matched by his love of the outdoors and adventure-he enjoyed golf, water skiing, snow skiing, and playing hours of ping pong with family and friends. One of his favorite memories is making a hole in one at number 7 on the Muleshoe Golf Course. For many years, Marlin took the family on unforgettable motorcycle trips in the Tres Ritos area of New Mexico, where they met up with friends and made memories on winding trails up the mountains and explored abandoned gold mines. Marlin was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Joyce Mills and a grandson, Kason Ryder Cook. Survivors include his son, Mike Mills; daughter, Rhonda Low; brother Leslie Joel Mills; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren with one on the way. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Marlin's residence, 2214 91st Street in Lubbock.
