Kelli Newman Obituary Kelli Jan Newman Kelli Jan Newman, a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on December 13, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on January 31, 1976, in Longview, Texas, to Gary and Janis Newman, Kelli was a vibrant spirit whose warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her. Kelli grew up in East Texas and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX, in 1994. A talented member of the school choir, Kelli carried her love for music throughout her life, singing with her family for years to come. After high school, she studied at East Texas Baptist University, Dallas Baptist University, and Liberty University. Most of her adult life was spent in Dallas, TX, later settling in Lubbock in 2021, where she found joy and created many of her happiest memories. A lifelong learner, Kelli was passionate about expanding her knowledge across a wide range of interests. She was a gifted gourmet chef and adventurous foodie, constantly experimenting with new recipes. While not every dish was a success (ask Dad about the Peanut Soup!), Kelli never hesitated to embrace the joy of trying something new. Reading was one of Kelli's greatest joys. Her home was filled with books, and whether reading them or listening to audiobooks, she was always immersed in a new story. A published poet with a keen love for literature, Kelli also dabbled in writing novels and was often sought out by authors to review their work. Kelli had a playful spirit and loved teasing her loved ones. As the self- proclaimed "middle child," she would jokingly insist that she was the favorite of Mom and Dad. With her dry wit, sharp sarcasm, and infectious humor, Kelli kept those around her laughing—often at her own expense. A passionate advocate for mental health, Kelli used her personal experiences to fight against the stigma surrounding mental health struggles. Despite her own challenges, she shared her story during Mental Health Awareness Month, offering support and encouragement to others who might be facing similar battles. Kelli grew up in church, learning about the love of Jesus from an early age. Although she struggled with her faith at times, she knew in her heart that she was loved by her Creator. In September 2024, Kelli gave her life fully to the Lord, guided by her brother Jerry and sister-in-law Sally. Just two weeks before her passing, Jerry had the honor of baptizing her. Her final days were filled with peace, knowing the profound comfort of her salvation. Kelli would want anyone reading this to know the same peace she found through surrendering her life to the One who created it. Jesus loves you. He died for you. He alone can save. A celebration of Kelli's life will be held at Southcrest Baptist Church, 3801 S Loop 289, Lubbock, TX 79423, on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at 11 a.m. Though our hearts ache from this profound loss, we take comfort in the knowledge that Kelli is now in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, in eternal peace. Kelli is survived by her parents, Gary L. and Janis Newman; her brother, Dr. Jerry L. Newman and wife Sally Ann; her sisters, Kristi Britt and husband Brad, and Kimberly Auvenshine and husband Darrel; nieces, Arianna Freelen and husband Jordan, Sarah-Brooke Bean and husband Kyler, Morgan Vega and husband Zach, and Mamie Auvenshine; nephews, Hunter Britt and wife Meagan, and Collin Britt and wife Emily; 11 great- nieces and nephews; and countless friends who cherished her deeply.
