Jose
Deleon
Jul 31, 1941 — Jun 25, 2026
Jose Nicholas DeLeon, born on July 31, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, leaving behind a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched many.
Jose was a man who valued faith, family, and perseverance throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Jesusa Salazar, in August of 1989 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and together they built a life centered on love, commitment, and shared memories. He worked in construction for many years, where his strong work ethic and dependable nature earned the respect of those who knew him. Later, he became an independent contractor, continuing to use his skills and dedication to provide for his family and serve his community.
Music was one of the joys of Jose's life. He found enjoyment in playing the accordion in his later years while listening to his favorite music. He also had a deep appreciation for western films, and he was known for his laughter and sense of humor. Jose especially enjoyed sweets and never seemed to get enough of them, a small but memorable part of the personality that brought smiles to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jesusa DeLeon; his parents, Gil DeLeon Sr. and Fabiana Rejino DeLeon; his brothers, Pedro DeLeon, Ramon DeLeon, and Jesus DeLeon; and his sisters, Francisca Garcia, Rosa Esparza, and Gracia DeLeon.
Jose is survived by his three daughters, Darlene Wanderlich, Lydia Melendez, and Debbie Flores; one son, Samuel Flores; and one stepdaughter, Donna Garza; his brother, Gil DeLeon Jr.; his sisters, Minerva DeLeon and Janey Aguilar; his eight grandchildren, Sebastian Guerrero, Symone Guerrero, Vanasa Perez, Alexandria Nichols, Fabian Luna, Santana Medina, Cassandra Perez, and Zachary Ochoa; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a large and loving family who will continue to cherish his memory and the example he set through his life.
