Johnson
Dec 28, 1942 — Mar 20, 2026
Jerry Mack Johnson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on December 28, 1942, in Girard, Texas, Jerry's life was a testament to love, dedication, and faith.
Growing up in Spur, Texas, Jerry attended local schools, where he laid the foundations for a life of learning and service. His academic journey continued at Texas Tech University, contributing to his well-rounded character and work ethic. Throughout his life, Jerry was known for his willingness to lend a hand, a trait that saw him work various jobs from helping with the family's wheat harvest to serving the community through his role at Stinnet's Grocery and managing a paper route. His devotion to family was evident in the care he provided for his mother after his father's passing.
Jerry's professional life was marked by a long-standing commitment to the City of Lubbock Street Department, where he served as a supervisor for 15 years. His dedication to his work and the people around him was unwavering, and his influence was felt by many.
Not only was Jerry a hardworking man, but he also had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He was known for his culinary skills, particularly his homemade candy and the famous Pea Salad recipe that delighted everyone at family gatherings. A serious competitor at heart, he found joy in games such as chess and 42, always eager for a good-natured challenge.
Jerry's faith was a cornerstone of his existence. He instilled love and spiritual values in his family, especially his grandsons, Aaryn and Seth, with whom he loved discussing the teachings of Jesus. His daily texts of scripture were a source of inspiration and guidance for them.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Ann Johnson, of their shared home; his son, Jerry Mark Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Lesa, of Lubbock; his brother, Jimmy Johnson, and sister-in-law, Nancy, of Rowlett; his grandsons, Aaryn L. Johnson and Seth J. Johnson; as well as many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. and Estell Johnson, his brothers, Edward and Walter Johnson, and his sisters, Lois Calwell, Doris Johnson, and Joyce Lovelace.
