Iva Mitchell Obituary A memorial service for Iva "Faye" Mitchell will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Troy Ratliff at Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City, Texas. Cremation was under the direction of Agape Funeral Chapel in Lubbock, Texas. Faye was born on August 9, 1944, to Herman E. Carter and Iva D Porter Carter in Pajaro, California. She passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loved ones. Faye was a loving and humble woman of faith. She loved her family with all she had within her. She gave more than she had and was always there for the underdog. Her tender heart came from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now returned to him. However, her love is forever etched in our hearts. Faye enjoyed being on a bowling team, horseshoe tournaments, playing cards, country music and dancing, cooking, camping, playing the lottery, "Win the jackpot for my family", vacationing, and being with her family. Her favorite place was Maui, Hawaii, where she was fortunate enough to go several times. She grew up in the South Plains of Texas and Northern California. When she was in her early 20s, California became her home. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Herman E. Carter and Iva D Carter. Brothers: Billy Carter, Gene Carter, Donald Carter, Kenny Carter, and Terry Carter. Sisters, Betty Carter and Janice Carter. Granddaughters, Jessica Jo Gatlin and Chelsea Jean-Anne Stroud. Faye is survived by her children: Tommy Glen Gatlin of Odessa, TX; Vickie Degwen Gatlin of Longview, TX; Charlotte Faye Stroud and her husband, Glen Stroud, of Denver City, TX; Roni Jean Machado of Lubbock, TX; and Jamie Michelle Wright and her husband, Flint Wright, of Cottonwood, AZ. Grandchildren: Shawna Blevins, Jennifer Pemberton, Brandon Machado, Zachary Stroud, Jacob Stroud and his wife, Janee Stroud, Jessica Morales, and Janessa Morales. 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, a sister in-law, Linda Carter, and many friends. She will be missed dearly. Memorials can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
