Obituary

Isabel Valdez Obituary Isabel "Chela" Valdez, born on January 26, 1946, joined the Almighty Lord and her savior Jesus Christ in heaven on August 14, 2022 after a long life that impacted everyone who knew her. Preceding her in death and welcoming her to God's kingdom are her parents, Julia Ramos Gutierrez and Isidoro Arrendondo Gutierrez Sr.; her sisters, Evangelina Rodriguez and Guadalupe Helton; her brothers, George and Joe Ben Gutierrez; and her husband, Alex Valdez. Isabel learned to play piano by ear and often performed for her family at gatherings or at church. She once worked as a seamstress, even designing her own wedding dress, before marrying and moving to Lubbock. From there, she worked in retail and then embarked on another career in the medical field. Chela was tireless, working at least two (and sometimes three) jobs to support her family, who she valued so much. Even though she was an incredibly busy woman, Isabel always had the time to help her children and loved ones. She is survived by her three sons, John, Matt, and Jason, along with their father, Lynn Ray Cannon. Chela was loved by the many members of her family, including her siblings Josie, Isidoro Jr., Alice, Ruben, Lydia, and David, as well as their spouses, their children, and their grandchildren. Coworkers and colleagues spoke highly of her tenacity and dedication. Isabel was truly blessed and was a blessing to those who knew her. She was often compared to a saint, as she tried to help others and often put people before her own needs. Her family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, researchers, clinics, and healthcare staff for their treatment and support of our beloved Chela. Isabel had a compassionate heart, a hearty laugh, a joyful smile, an unyielding faith, and a bright presence that illuminated our world. She would want you to remember the wonderful times she had and to bring her level of warmth to those around you. A Celebration of Life will be held for Isabel at True Life Church at 5426 50th Street in Lubbock on Saturday, September 17th at 10:30 am. The family asks attendees to please adhere to appropriate and necessary precautions for COVID-19. The celebration will be streamed online on the True Life Church Facebook page for those that cannot attend. Isabel's family suggests donations be made to True Life Church to honor her faith and dedication.
