He is survived by his Wife of 63 years, Marie along with his Sons Danny (wife Nancy), and Bobby (wife Rosalie). There will be a luncheon and Memorial for friends and family at Noon, Monday, February 5th preceding the internment of his ashes at Silverton. A Memorial Service and celebration of his life will be held at Second Baptist Church in Lubbock on Tuesday February 6th, 2018 at 11:00am. He was born on December 19, 1927 in Silverton, Texas to G H and Doleta (Seay) Boyce . He grew up, along with his two brothers Alvie and Scooge (Harold Wayne) and two sisters Icy and Lottie, helping his folks work the family farm. He attended Francis school near Silverton Texas until the family moved to Center Colorado to continue farming. On graduation from high school, Harvey sought to continue his education by enrolling in the Colorado School of Mines' Engineering program. Joining the Air Force When the Korean Conflict broke out, Harvey enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and was dispatched to Korea, where he served as a Senior Airman in the 35th Communications Squadron. After his tour in Korea he was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato, California. One Sunday he and a friend, and future best man, Joe Magee decided to attend church in San Rafael near the Base. This led to Harvey and Joe filling out visitor cards that Sunday. Some time later he received an invitation to attend a beach party that the church group was having and that's where he met Marie. The Love of His Life Harvey continued to attend church and after some persuasion convinced Marie to go on a date with him. Being the incurable romantic that he was, Harvey would read to Marie. The book of choice? Einstein's Theory of Relativity, which he endeavored to explain to her at length. Their first formal date was Labor Day Weekend 1953. He and Marie went on their second date over Thanksgiving that same year. Harvey and Marie announced their engagement, when he gave her the engagement ring. So then, they had to set their wedding date. They chose Marie's birthday, May 28th, 1954. In January 1954, when Harvey was released from the service, he moved to Spokane, Washington. Marriage, Career, and Family He came back to California over Easter to get their marriage license. Mother Brown made special arrangements with the school for Marie to finish High School three weeks early. The night of the wedding they left for Washington. Harvey was living in a boarding house in Spokane at the time to curb expenses. Marie was anxious to use her new pots and pans so they rented a small apartment. The apartment was so small, that when opening the refrigerator door you could turn on the gas stove with your derriere. Next, they moved to an apartment behind the office where Harvey worked. From there they lived in a basement apartment. Each move was another step up the ladder. They lived in this area just outside of Spokane for 7 years. Both Danny and Bobby, their two sons, were born in Spokane. When Harvey took a job with H. Halverson, a General Contractor, they transferred to a Salt Lake City, Utah office. In 1962, the family moved from Grainger, Utah to Mountain View, California. Harvey took a position as an estimator and worked his way into a position as a Construction Specifications Engineer with Albert A. Hoover and Associates, an architecture firm. This entailed advising the architects on how they could implement their beautiful designs so that they would remain standing up. Leaping Into His Own Business In 1972, after a lengthy tenure with Hoover, the family moved to Aptos California to take a position with a small, family owned firm in Watsonville California firm. After a short time with them, he struck out on his own. Harvey started Facilities Company, his own general contracting firm. Around 1976 Harv and Marie moved back over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Menlo Park, California. This was much closer to Harvey's business and Marie took a position at Reynolds Securities in Palo Alto. Bob, the only chick left in the nest, opted to stay on the ocean side. Harvey and the firm took great pride in the work that they did. It ranged from doing minor repairs and improvements to offices, to full remodels of high end offices and homes, and conversion of entire apartment complexes into condominiums. Retirement After a long and successful run with Facilities Company, Harv decided to retire. He and Marie sold their home in Menlo Park and moved to Lubbock TX in 1997. After nearly 70 years of hard work Harv decided it was time to stop doing what he had to do and start doing what he wanted to do. Having always been an avid woodworker, he proceeded to put together a shop in the garage that would be the envy of many. He played in there for hours on end designing and building. His projects ran the gamut from an out building to provide additional storage space, to small game boards for friends and family. He always kept himself busy. He was a voracious reader, played card and board games with family and friends, along with spoiling the three family dogs. On one occasion Bill Bocook and his wife Pat, one of the Architects and the office manager who had worked with him at Albert A Hoover and Associates in Palo Alto contacted him from California. They had remained close friends, and Bill sought him out to tap his expertise. Flying him out and hosting him in California to consult on various projects. A Life Well Lived: A Note From Harveys' Son Dan Having researched and gathered all of this information on his life, I am struck by how active and productive he was. My father was an exceptional man in so many ways. He was intelligent, focused, creative, giving and kind. He was always thinking of the next project and planning for it, and what he could do for others. In January of 2013 he was working in his shop and his blood sugar went terribly low and he fell and fractured his skull. Providentially, he fell on the alarm system actuator that he carried in his pocket. As a result the home alarm system tried to activate and would not stop. Mom went out to the shop to try and find out what was going on and found him on the floor bleeding from his wound. The EMTs were able to stabilize him and get him to the hospital where he was stitched up and from there he went into recovery. Unfortunately, he was never quite the same. I will always remember him the way he was before. Grands and Great Grands Harvey is also survived from Dan's family by his Grandson, Solomon, along with his wife Christy and their six children Rose, Solomon Jr., Violet, Ray, Magnolia, and Dahlia; Granddaughter Fauna Tungjaroenkul, her husband Jeremiah, their daughter Anisa and son Xerarch; and Granddaughter Terra Yanke, her husband Ray, and their sons Connor and Cooper. Carrying on from Bob's side are his Grandson John Dass wife Janette great granddaughter Anne Julia Dass; Granddaughter Rhonda Ortez husband Edwin, along with great granddaughters Yessenia, Pricellia, Klarissa, great grandson Edwin Jr. Services
