Gary Don Carter, 68, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at his home in Lorenzo, TX.  Gary was born on January 9, 1958, in Lubbock, TX to Ike Carter and Lou Ann Dubree.

Gary's dream was to become a Law Enforcement Officer.  He joined the Odessa Police Department and worked up to a crime scene investigator.  Later in life, he was a funeral director for several years.  He was also a Corrections Officer at the Smith Prison Unit in Lamesa, TX.

Gary enjoyed living on his small farm with the horses, goats, and chickens.  He especially enjoyed his many dogs and making visits to schools, children's programs, and senior living facilities with his registered Therapy Dog Hazel.  He also volunteered with the South Plains Obedience Training Club, setting up trials throughout the year.

His first love was Jesus Christ and the relationship he had with his Savior.  He urged so many to see that relationship in him, and he hoped that all would come to Christ.

Gary is survived by his life partner of 18 years, Marcia Bishoff; his father, Ike Carter; his half brother, Eddy Dubree; his half sister, Lisa Carter Jennings; his half brother Chris Carter; and many friends that he shared his life with.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages friends to honor his memory by supporting The Grace Church in Lubbock, TX.
