Obituary

Claudia Loraine Colon, born on December 13, 1973, in Tahoka, Texas, passed away on August 9, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas.

Claudia lived a life marked by strength, determination, and uniqueness. Born deaf, she met the world with resilience and learned sign language as a bridge of love and connection with her children and family. She carried herself with a spirit that was both sassy and independent, and she faced life's challenges with courage and grace. Those who knew her will remember a woman who never allowed hardship to define her, but instead used her experiences to become an advocate, a caregiver, and a source of encouragement to others.

She received her cosmetology license and worked in a field that reflected her desire to serve and connect with people. Earlier in her life, she worked at MHMR, where she helped others with disabilities and offered her time and compassion to those in need. Her work was more than employment. It was an extension of who she was, because she cared deeply for people and believed in treating others with dignity and kindness, despite their disability. She also spent many years working at the baseball concession stands, where her familiar presence and memorable sign, "I'm deaf, write down your order," became part of the experience for many in her community. She handled each day with humor, confidence, and determination, showing others that communication and kindness could overcome barriers.

Claudia was a devoted single mother whose greatest pride was her children. She loved her daughters, Katherine and Jasmine, and son, Joseph George, with all her heart, and she was passionate about their lives and well-being. Her love for her family was steadfast and unconditional, and she gave of herself freely to those she held dear. She was also a proud grandmother to Hunter Lewis Sepeda, who brought joy to her life. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Claudia was an advocate for other people with disabilities and lived with a heart that was attentive to the needs of others. She understood struggle in a personal way, and because of that understanding, she offered empathy and support to those around her. Her life was a testament to perseverance, and she inspired others by the way she carried herself with confidence and purpose. Even in the face of adversity, she remained loving, outspoken, and deeply committed to the people she loved.

Her family and friends will remember her for her warm spirit, her strong will, and her unwavering devotion to those around her. She had a way of making her presence known, and she left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Claudia's life reflected the beauty of resilience and the power of love, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were touched by her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Jennifer Colon and her father, Jose Luis Colon.

She is survived by her daughter, Jasmine Sepeda; her son, Joseph George; her grandson, Hunter Lewis Sepeda; her mother, Juanita Colon; two brothers, Christopher Colon and his wife, Sara, and Matthew Colon and his wife, Stephanie; three sisters, Elizabeth Colon Fernandez and her husband, Jesus, Michelle Colon Sullivan and her husband, James, and Sonia Colon and her husband, Juan; and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared so generously.

Though her earthly journey has ended, Claudia Loraine Colon's legacy remains in the lives she influenced, the family she cherished, and the example she set through her strength and determination. She will be remembered with love, respect, and gratitude for the many ways she touched the lives of others.
