Christiane 'Christy' Jean
Christiansen
Oct 10, 1962 — Jul 2, 2025
Christiane "Christy" Christiansen Obituary Christy was born in Frankfort, Germany, on October 10, 1962, to Heidi and Andy Owens. Andy met Heidi while he was deployed overseas, and the two fell in love before returning to America to start their life together. Christy was baptized at a Protestant church in Germany where this began her strong, devoted faith in her Lord and Savior. When they brought Christy back to the States, Heidi affectionately called her their favorite "German souvenir." Christy attended school at Immanuel Lutheran Church through 8th grade, then went on to Giddings High School with her siblings Connie, Jeff, and Jimmy. She was an active member of the band, Beta Club, and the yearbook staff. She also taught swimming lessons in her free time. Christy was consistently recognized for her academic achievements, earning a place on the Honor Roll and making contributions throughout her high school years. She enjoyed going out dancing and would always keep an eye on her younger siblings to make sure they didn't get into too much trouble. On a few occasions, though, Christy turned down a night on the town to stay home and read—but she still helped sneak her siblings back into the house late at night. It was just like Christy to be both the responsible one and the quiet accomplice when it mattered most. After graduating in 1981, Christy began building both her career and her family. She worked in a variety of fields, including dispatching, the service industry, and eventually the oil field, all while raising her three children—Amanda, Madison, and McKenzie who were the greatest joy in her life. She continued to climb the ladder in the oil field and eventually found herself in Midland, Texas, where she successfully started and built several companies from the ground up, becoming a true powerhouse in a male-dominated industry earning respect through hard work, determination, and grit. Through the twists and turns of life, Christy reconnected with someone from her past—her high school friend, Steven Christiansen and on June 13, 2017, she married her best friend and partner in life while also gaining two bonus daughters, Andrea and Stephanie. Together, Christy and Steven created a beautiful, blended family filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support. Christy had a heart bigger than Texas. She loved Steven, her daughters, her mother and siblings, and her entire family unconditionally. She was a huge part of all her nieces' and nephews' and great nieces' and nephews' lives, and they each carry fond memories of Christy's love and support. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She enjoyed "cooking for a crowd" and could turn whatever she had on hand into a meal. Thanksgiving was often referred to as Christy's Super Bowl. Christy enjoyed traveling especially to the beach where she could relax and unwind with her family and a book in her hand. Christy had an eye for crafting and could arrange flowers better than most. She also loved antiquing and was always on the hunt for precious hummels to add to her impressive collection. As a devoted Houston Astros fan, she rarely missed a game and rooted for them through thick and thin. But her favorite pastime was spending time with the family she loved so dearly. Whether it was daily phone calls with her daughters, watching the game with Steven and their dog Hazel, or coming home on the weekends for family get-togethers, she never passed an opportunity to tell someone she loved them. Christy passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her father, Andy Owens; in laws Patsy and Johnnie Christiansen; sister-in-law Lisa Christiansen. Christy is survived by her husband Steven Christiansen of Giddings; mother Heidi Owens of New Braunfels; sister Constance Schatte and Kennith of New Braunfels; brothers, Jeffery Owens of Seguin, Jimmy Owens and Susan of Palacios; daughters, Amanda Tillery of San Antonio, Madison Knight and Ryan of Paige, McKenzie Alexander of Nacogdoches; step daughters, Andrea Grisham and Chris of San Diego, California, Stephanie Christiansen and Junior of Texas City; four grandchildren, Courteney Grisham, Emmalynn Grisham, and Kaydence Grisham, all of San Diego, California, and Mathew Mendez of Rockport. She is also survived by her Aunt Jean Keys of Altus, Oklahoma; uncle and God-father Dieter Schirrmacher of Kriftel, Germany; close friends, Perry Britton of Midland and Jeff Johnson and Kelli of Midland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Per Christy's wishes, her ashes will be spread in a private ceremony with family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored to have donations made in Christy's memory to the Houston Astros Foundation. Christy's legacy lives on through her family and friends and will be forever in our hearts.
