Bonnie Walker Obituary A memorial service, to celebrate the 83 years of life of Bonnie Walker, will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 13, at Broadway Church of Christ. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 13, at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, with Bruce Cotton officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Agape Funeral Chapel. Bonnie Ruth Harrison was born on the Matador Ranch in Texas on December 28, 1928. She was so tiny that she fit in a cardboard shoebox and stayed warmed on the oven door. Homer Harrison Sr. , a teacher and ranch hand, and Susie Dean, a homemaker, were her proud parents. As an eight year old child, Bonnie's adventurous spirit allowed her to overcome third degree burn injuries and discover her love of classical music during her recovery. She loved playing the piano, which she learned from her mother. As a teenager, Mom loved to compete academically and physically. She excelled in basketball, tennis, and debate at Idalou High School. She won the state championship in debate and had the opportunity to compete in tennis on the state level as well, but could not do both. She graduated Valedictorian from Idalou high School in 1946 and won a state scholarship to Texas Tech University. There, she majored in journalism and learned to speak French, setting a family tradition. While attending TTU, Bonnie worked diligently at different print companies, assembling materials. She then met and married Deyerle Wright, a bookkeeper, in 1948. Their son, William Gregory Wright was born in 1953. At this time, she loved working at Hester's Office Supply in sales and typesetting . After the death of Deyerle in 1961, she met and married Meredith J. Walker, a fellow church member at Broadway Church of Christ after a short courtship. They had four children together: Barry, Kathy, Darla, and Max. As a mom, she cheerfully served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Bluebird leader. Bonnie also enjoyed teaching piano for many years and served as the manager of Lubbock Music Center's sheet music department for eleven years. Later, she served as a convenience store clerk and eventually she worked as a caregiver to the elderly, easing the worries of many families. She sang with the Sweet Adelines for a brief time and attended church at both Monterey Church of Christ and later Broadway Church of Christ for a number of years. As a girl, she had been baptized in a horse tank near Tahoka, TX. Throughout her life, she emulated Christ helping others and following Jesus' teachings. She enjoyed expressing her feelings by writing poetry and drawing sketches of friends and family. She served as a counselor to many and her wise advice shaped many lives. Her home was an expression of her personality, filled with whimsical knickknacks and collections. Her passionate soul was reflected in her love for heartfelt movies, thought provoking art books, and all genres of music. Watching the birds and butterflies, while gardening, provided her with great satisfaction. Overall, God, family, and friends were first in her heart. She is survived by younger sister, Lynne Vitatoe of Lubbock; two sons: Barry Walker of Lubbock, Max and Dee Walker of Idalou; two daughters: Darla and Lloyd Scarrow of Pittsburgh, PA, and Kathy and Tim Walker of Lubbock; nieces Lee Ann Paxton of Levelland, Diane Billingslea of Austin, Rena Kay Dill of Fort Worth, and Toni Moman of Roundrock; beloved grandchildren Camden Lily-Hall of Boise ID, Rachel Lily of Las Cruces NM, Crystal Greene-Brock of Lubbock, Adrian Wright of Tecumseh, OK; Meighan Edwards of Santa Fe, NM; Madison Walker of Idalou, Jaz Walker of Lubbock, Jared Scarrow of Maine, Justin Scarrow of El Paso as well as other beloved grandchildren.
