In Loving Memory of Betty Jean Arnold

Some people leave behind possessions. Betty Jean Arnold left behind people whose lives were forever changed because she believed they could change.

Betty Jean Arnold, 77, entered the presence of her Lord surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of hope, compassion, and transformed lives.

Born on February 25, 1949, in Clovis, New Mexico, Betty was the daughter of Lewis Gwin Taylor and Dollie Mae McCleskey. She grew up with a resilient spirit that would come to define her life and become a source of strength for countless others.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sonny Arnold, in 2001. Though she experienced profound loss throughout her life, she refused to allow hardship to define her story. Instead, she chose to let grace have the final word.

One of the greatest testimonies of Betty's life was her unwavering commitment to sobriety. For 34 years, she walked in freedom from addiction—a victory she never kept to herself. She devoted her life to helping others discover that same freedom, offering hope to those who believed they were beyond redemption. Through her faithful involvement with The HUB of the Plains, Betty became a trusted friend, mentor, encourager, and living reminder that lasting change is possible. Her greatest accomplishments were not measured by awards or recognition, but by the countless lives she touched, the tears she comforted, and the people she inspired to begin again.

Anyone who attended meetings with Betty knew they would hear her say, "I have a God who loves me and wants good things for me." Those simple words became her testimony and the hope she shared with everyone she met.

Above all, Betty loved her family. She is survived by her sister, Diane Tatum; her sons, Chevy Hefley and his wife, Amy Hefley, and JJ Hefley and his wife, Brandi Hefley; her cherished grandchildren, Madison Hefley, Peyton Hefley, Deacon Hefley, and Hayden Hefley; and her precious great-grandson, Elias Noble. They will remember her for her strength, her compassion, her perseverance, and her deep love.

Those who knew Betty knew a woman who understood that brokenness does not have to be the end of the story. Her life became a testimony that hope is real, grace is greater than our failures, and every person is worthy of love and a second chance.

While her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in the enduring impact of a life faithfully lived in service to others. Betty's legacy will continue in every life restored, every family reunited, and every person who chooses hope because she first believed in them.

A Celebration of Betty's Life and Legacy will be held on Monday, July 13, at 1:30 p.m. at The HUB of the Plains in Lubbock, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather to remember, celebrate, and give thanks for a remarkable woman whose life continues to bear fruit through the many people she loved and served.

If Betty's life could be summed up in a single sentence, it would be this: she never stopped believing that God could redeem any life, because He had redeemed hers.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Hub of the Plains at the service.
