Bert Truett
Rainwater
May 18, 1931 — Sep 16, 2011
Bert Rainwater Obituary Services for Bert Truett Rainwater will be held at the First Baptist Church Chapel, at 10:00 P.M., Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, with Pastor Bobby Dagnel and Pastor John Ballard presiding. Bert was born on May 18, 1931 to Brown and Clara Rainwater in Brownfield, Texas. He died September 16, 2011. His parents, a sister Vivian Rainwater, and a son Marty Rainwater preceded him in death. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Gertrude Rainwater, of the home, and a son Bert Rainwater, Jr. of Dallas. Heaven is for real; Bert conveyed this belief to the people around him. He always looked for the positive and was quick to give people encouragement. He loved to write; he wrote a monthly editorial for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. Bert wrote three three books and was especially proud of the last one, "American Wars: Good, Bad, and Ugly." He was retired from the Air Force, where he was awarded the Freedom Foundation Award. He went on to get two Master's degrees, one in History at the University of Central Oklahoma and one in Criminal Justice at Oklahoma City University. Bert worked 18 years as a probation and parole officer in Oklahoma City. He enjoyed talking to his friends at Zach's Club, where he went to work out. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and gave generously to his church, as well as other charities including the Salvation Army and the City Rescue Mission. Bert will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the First Baptist Church Lubbock, 2201 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.
