Johnny Edward McNew of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on September 10, 2019. He was born November 24, 1934, in Patricia, Texas, to Lawrence McNew and Ruby Greenwood McNew. Growing up, his family lived in Patricia, TX, Alamogordo, NM, Seminole, TX, and Loop, TX. He graduated from Loop High School and joined the US Navy in 1953.
He married Freda Mae Chitwood, on February 3, 1956. They settled in New Deal, TX, in 1967, where he served as Gin Manager at New Deal Co-op Gin until 1981. He also served his community as a New Deal City Council member and assisted in establishing the New Deal Volunteer Fire Department. He coached Little League for over a decade and was a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Freda McNew, of Lubbock, TX, his children, Terri Agnew Legner, of Phoenix, AZ, and Tammi Riley (Wayne), of Abernathy, TX; his grandchildren, Kelby Agnew (Krista), of Phoenix, AZ, Ashley Wiegers (Brett), of Scottsdale, AZ, Kinsey Norris (Nick), of Lubbock, TX, and Tate Riley (Nikki), of Friendswood, TX; his great grandchildren, Lawson and Grayson Agnew, Samantha and Keaton Wiegers, Riley and Emy Quay Norris, and Wes and Thomas Riley.
He is also survived by his siblings, Denton McNew (Joyce), of Andrews, TX, and Jerry McNew (Johnnie Jean), of Snyder, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Laverne Carson, and two brothers, Dale McNew, and Charles McNew.
Visitation will be at Agape Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 13, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 14, at 2 p.m., at Loop Cemetery, in Loop, TX.
