Jerome Chaney Obituary

Jerome Dean Chaney, 69, of Lubbock, Texas went to be with his Lord on April 17, 2019.

Jerome was born September 17th, 1949 in Paducah, Texas to James D Chaney and Mary Rushing Chaney. He went to school in Paducah, Idalou, and Roosevelt. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a BS in Law Enforcement.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972, serving in Germany. Jerome went into Law Enforcement with the Lubbock Police Department in 1974. He was in the Patrol Division, SWAT, and Motors.  He retired from LPD on Feb. 28, 1997. Jerome continued his career in Law Enforcement in 2002 as Chief of Police at Ranger Police Department, Jonestown Police Department, and Clyde Police department, retiring Feb. 28, 2013.

Jerome had a strong love for sports. He was a Texas Tech and Cowboys fan. He enjoyed playing in his younger days and enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball and Little Dribblers Basketball.

Jerome is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife Linda Morehart Chaney; two sons, Jeremy of Wichita Falls and Jason and wife Laura of Lubbock, step daughter Becky Douglas and husband Hunter of Clyde, TX and step son Dustin Young and Tina of Abilene, TX.  Grandchildren Sayer, Joe, Paige, and James Dean Chaney. Step grandchildren Destiny, Hailey, and Caleb.  Mother Mary Rushing Chaney, brothers Jimmie Chaney, and Joel Chaney, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father James D Chaney, sisters Julia Chaney and Judy Chaney Gazalski, and brother Jackie Chaney.

Per his wishes, Jerome was cremated and there will be no public services.
