Georgia Shipman Obituary

Georgia Lee Shipman, a strong woman who loved her family fiercely, went home to
be with her Lord on Friday, October 11th, 2019, at the age of 89.
Georgia departed this life peacefully and naturally at home, in Lubbock, Texas,
surrounded by family and years of great memories. She was born in Roby, Texas on
December 7, 1929 to parents Oran and Vera Simmons. Georgia was married at the young
age of 18, in 1948, to WWII Navy Sailor, Henry Bartow Shipman. Together they raised two
wonderful children: Marilyn Cameron and Bart Shipman. They were actively involved in
their family church for many years. In 1962, she became a licensed cosmetologist and
opened a hair salon in her own home, which she operated for several years while raising
her children. After the children were grown she began working as a cosmetologist in a
beauty shop, and continued to do so for over two decades.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister who was full of life.
Everyone who knew her loved her and marveled at her great tenacity as she walked
through some of life’s roughest trials. Known as Gigi to her adoring grandchildren, she
always enjoyed spoiling, doting, and “worrying” over them, and if you ever visited her you
probably had a large delicious meal, whether you were hungry or not. She was beautiful
and strong and will be dearly missed by all her knew her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Henry Bartow Shipman, her
daughter Marilyn Cameron, and many siblings. She is survived by her son, Bart Enlow
Shipman of Lubbock, her three granddaughters Nicole Riedmueller, Caitlyn Wilson, and
Rachel Lynn, two grandsons Chad Shipman and Joshua Shipman, her son in law Howard
Cameron, and six wonderful great grandchildren, Ryan, Mark, Cade, Steven, Kayla, and
Lucy, her sister Vera Covington, and brother William Simmons, along with many nieces and
nephews.
